Linen Backing Fabric

Linen has always been the gold standard as a backing for hooked rugs.  Because it is flax fibers, it is the most durable fabric for rugs.  It actually becomes stronger when it is exposed to moisture and will last for many generations.  Our linen is made with mixed threads, bleached and unbleached.  This combination gives it great strength but a softer hand than bleached linen.  Its color is lighter than unbleached linen, which makes it easier to draw patterns.  It works well for all yarns.  The weave is tighter than others sold as "primitive" linen. But because of the spacing of the weave, and its soft hand, it can accommodate all sizes of wool strips using the proper sized hook.
