We are returning to the beautiful Inn on the Lakes, a lovely boutique hotel in Sebring, Florida. The Inn has a pool (imagine a cold drink poolside), exercise room. restaurant, and cocktail lounge. There is an elevator.   There is shopping nearby.  There are two golf courses within walking distance. There is a beachfront boat landing, tennis, and horseback riding.  The inn is pet friendly so the whole family can visit.  Meals are included whether you are attending the classes or enjoying the retreat.  A block of rooms has been set aside. You must make your own room reservations.   Rooms should be booked as soon as possible. In order to get the special rate, you must identify yourself as being with the EASTWOOD SCHOOL Rug hookers. Room rates are listed on the enrollment forms for each session.  Contact information is at the bottom of this page.

Rug Hooking Retreats

For 2022, we are pleased to offer Rug Hooking Retreats.  Many of us crave community with people with the same interests after the social restrictions required during the pandemic. During both the January and March sessions, running concurrently with classes, we will have a  3-day gathering (hook-in) for social rug hooking and rug needle punching with teachers available in the room for problem-solving help.  Seaside Rug Hooking will be vending and retreat participants will be able to shop with the teachers.  Please use an enrollment form to register for the session of your choice.

Rug Hooking Classes

January, we welcome back Diane Stoffel, our most popular teacher, for an open rug hooking class for students at all levels. Her classes always fill up quickly. Diane is a certified McGown teacher and will teach all aspects of hooking, fine shading and primitive, flowers to pictorials, and back again. Daily class lessons on “how to’s”. Diane will teach on a pattern of your choice.

March, we are fortunate to have two teachers previously scheduled for 2021, Nancy Jewett and Ania Knap.

Nancy Jewett is a self taught artist who grew up on a farm in Vermont, surrounded by animals and memorable rugs hooked by her grandmother. She later learned to hook from her former mother in law and soon began designing her own and dyeing wool. Her designs, which often reflect her fondness for animals and sense of humor, might include animals having fun, playing musical instruments or simply being a bit mischievous.
Her passion for color transforms wool into an irresistible palette encircling the color wheel. She is presently working to complete her McGown Teacher Certification and is the owner of Fluff & Peachy Bean Designs which she founded in 2003. Nancy has a love for teaching color planning, dyeing and design with an emphasis on borders. She is a frequent contributor to Rug Hooking Magazine, TIGHR (The International Guild of Hand Hooking Rugmakers) Membership chair 2006-2009, 3 year term (2009-20015) ATHA Region 1 Representative and current McGown Chairman of Activities and Members at Large. She co-hosts the ATHA Region 1 Hook In at Westford, MA and The Harvest Hook In in Brewer, Maine.

Ania Knap is a McGown-certified rug hooking teacher and recovering scientist whose passion for vibrant colors drives her artistic creativity. Her PhD in chemistry and artist’s view combine to define her unique approach to symmetry, contrast and color - artistry and emotion, expressed with the analytical precision of human color perception. Ania offers experienced students a new perspective on design and execution and opens a new world of expression for novices. In her work, she frequently mixes cuts, ranging from #2 to ½ in torn strips, to achieve a desired effect in her finished pieces; experience that she shares with students to help realize their own artistic vision.
Anybody is welcomed to follow along Ania’s journey with the rug hooking blog she publishes in collaboration with her daughter entitled, “My Mother’s a Hooker”  Ania enjoys teaching open classes and helping her students to expand their skills; the goal is to enable their artistry - to guide students along the path to achieving their own personal triumphs of creative expression.

General Questions

We honor our founder and Director Emerita, Anne Eastwood, changing the rug school name to The Eastwood School. She has kept the school running since 1991. At the March 2019 session in Sebring, FL, with Anne present as a guest "student", we announced the change.
